Subject: Bail CE non-compliance

Dear Sir or Madam:

The Mississippi Insurance Department’s (hereafter “MID”) bail agent licensing system shows that you or one of your agents have failed to complete the required eight (8) hours of continuing education training from October 1, 2017 to September 30, 2018.

This is in violation of Miss Code Ann. §83-39-3 (8) (a) (Supp. 2017) which states that before the renewal of a license of any professional bail agent, soliciting bail agent or bail enforcement agent, the applicant shall submit proof of successful completion of continuing education hours as follows:

(ii) ……, eight (8) classroom hours of continuing education for each year or part of a year of the two-year license period, for a total of sixteen (16) hours per license period.

The MID will allow you to correct this deficit by requiring the completion of two 8-hour CE courses over the next twelve (12) months, in which the hours must be taken from two of the three approved Bail CE providers. In other words, you cannot take the CE course twice under the same provider in the same year, ending Sept. 30, 2019.

Failure to comply with this requirement will result in you not being eligible to renew your license at the time of renewal, subject to a hearing before the Commissioner of Insurance, and shall be required to complete the 40-hour pre-licensing course again.

The approved providers for bail agents are as follows:

(1) Mississippi Bail Agents Association -  - 1-601-899-8599

(2) Mississippi Coalition of Bail Sureties  - – 1-877-771-2245

(3) Mississippi Bail Training Institute - – 1-228-265-7700

If you have any questions, please contact Greg Abadie with MID’s Licensing Division at 601-359-9217.

Thank you.
